John Pace

John Pace is a senior and has been involved with the Summersell Center since Fall 2019 when he took the Alabama Memory course. He has been an important part of the Summersell Center’s organization and planning. He has served as an aid to several ALM classes and as an advisor to Randall Research Scholars that are working with the Summersell Center. In addition, John is involved across several SCSS projects including the Summersell Scholar Program, SCSS Alumni, the Alabama Memory website, departmental outreach, and strategic organization and planning.

However, his most powerful moment with the Center was during the Summer of 2020 where he was able to successfully nominate Vivian Malone Jones for the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame (AWHOF). This experience highlighted to him the importance of integrating stories like Vivian Malone’s into preexisting social frameworks throughout Alabama from governmental institutions like the AWHOF to the classroom. This mindset came directly out of his experience with the Summersell type of research.
