Lynching victims died twice: once when they were murdered and again when their memories were lost to history. Now, students are working to recapture these lives.

Through a close partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama, students work to regain the lives of lynching victims in Alabama. Students work with archivists and reference librarians about primary research and investigation methods as they seek to reconstruct the lives of these victim — who they were, where they lived and worked, who they loved. With these stories, students contribute to Alabama Memory: Remembering Lynching in Alabama, a website that documents the history of racial violence in every county in the state of Alabama.
